auricles
Groups of cells at the basal angles of leaves of some mosses which are enlarged or otherwise differentiated and often forming distinct lobes.
dendroid
Having a branching structure remeniscent of that of a tree(Latin: dendros - a tree), with short erect stem with branches clustered together towards the tip.
emarginate
With a small "nick" or indentation at the apex of a leaf or thallus lobe.
perianth
A stucture formed from modified leaves which encloses sex organs and young capsules.
plicate
Folded - as applied for example to moss leaves with longitudinal folds.
tomentum
A mat of tangled thick rhizoids (or radicles) around the stem of some mosses.
